Council hears park upgrades, trail wayfinding delays and approved wildfire mitigation grant

Parks and trails items were included in the 2026 timeline but staff warned that trail and wayfinding signage installation will slip beyond 2026 while the parks board finalizes naming and sign language. The parks program will present recommendations back to council once naming conventions are settled and priorities identified through the parks board process.
On wildfire mitigation, staff reported the city cleared the state review and is eligible for reimbursement under the grant. Mr. Penny said the city will proceed with hand crews and goats next year and will bring policy questions to council in October about expanding grant eligibility to include certain noxious-weeds work. He also noted that operational maintenance concerns (such as grass height in parks) remain a separate but related item for parks maintenance.
