Residents ask council to seek state removal of parking that blocks sight lines on Dixie Highway

"We'd like to ask for the town's help in interceding with the state to eliminate the parking play spaces on Dixie Highway," McAllister said, describing the configuration as "an incredibly dangerous intersection" where visibility is blocked by parked vehicles. Staff and council members said the road is a state facility and may require state approval for parking removal; they recalled prior work to improve hash marks and said police respond to complaints when vehicles violate markings.
Another resident, Benjamin Benjie, confirmed repeated near-misses and also proposed adding visibility strips to wooden beach steps, saying the sun can make step edges hard to see. Council directed staff to review prior contacts with the state and to consider next steps; staff also noted they had previously improved hash marks and can follow up with state authorities.
