Board approves updates to highly capable plan, adds second test requirement and revised parent letter

Board member (S4) presented updates to the highly capable program plan that the district revised to comply with new requirements. The plan now includes an added WACC item and requires testing twice before students can be released from the elementary highly capable designation.
"They now require you to test 2 times before students get out of elementary school," Board member (S4) said, and the board agreed to add the required WACC language and a second parent letter intended to clarify that the district is requesting permission to test rather than merely notifying parents of a recommendation. The board moved and seconded the revision and approved it.
Staff said the new parent letter (appearing on page 62 of the packet) is intended to be clearer than prior wording that sometimes left parents confused about permission versus recommendation.
