Council approves $492,028 piggyback contract for town road repaving

The Lantana Town Council approved a piggyback contract to repave town roads using pricing from a City of West Palm Beach ITB. The council's motion authorized a contract to M and M Asphalt Maintenance Inc., doing business as All County Paving, with a not-to-exceed total of $492,028.50.
Public works staff briefed the council on the paving list and said some streets—such as South 14th Street from West Ocean to West Harvey—were last paved in 1999. "South 14th Street from West Ocean to West Harvey Street, last paved in 1999," Mr. Crockett said, urging council support. Staff also highlighted the need to coordinate with utilities and noted that some areas include traffic-calming devices that must be brought into compliance with Palm Beach County standards.
Council approved the piggyback award by unanimous voice vote. Staff said the piggyback approach uses competitively bid unit pricing from larger jurisdictions to obtain better unit costs and to save time on procurement; officials noted such piggybacks have time limits and require vendor vetting.
The council asked that staff coordinate phase sequencing with utility companies to avoid redoing newly paved sections.
