Board approves urgent resolution to add controlled-entry vestibule at high school

The Indian Hill Exempted Village School District Board on May 19 approved a resolution declaring urgent necessity to install an additional controlled-entry area at the high school and to proceed without competitive bidding under Ohio law.
Board members described the change as an added layer beyond the existing double doors that would allow front-office staff to authenticate visitors before they enter the main building. "This would be installing an additional, piece of glass in so that once you get through those double doors, essentially, now you're not free to go anywhere in the building at the high school," one board member said while reading the resolution text that cites Ohio Revised Code section 3313.46.
Operations and facilities committee members said the improvement was a top priority and that performing the work during the summer would limit disruption to school activities. The resolution authorizes the superintendent and treasurer to proceed with replacement of entry doors and access-control improvements without competitive bidding because of the stated urgency; board members voted in favor to move forward.
The board indicated the project timeline may extend into the fall, but emphasized a desire to begin work promptly to enhance building authentication and safety.
