The Select Board voted July 28 to approve a revised encampment policy that shortens the town's removal timeline for encampments on properties designated off-limits. Under the change, outreach by Charterhouse and other service partners is preserved but the period from initial outreach to a formal notice to vacate would shrink to approximately one week, with three additional weeks before enforcement would occur in the designated off-limits cases.
Susan (speaker 29), chair of the Addison County Housing Coalition and a representative of outreach partners, told the board the coalition supports the shortened timeline because it improves responsiveness to businesses and property owners while still enabling trauma-informed outreach. "We do feel that this is a reasonable shift," she said, adding that Charterhouse outreach will continue to be central to any outreach and relocation effort (Susan, speaker 29).
Board action: A motion to approve the proposed changes and to authorize the town manager to enter into the revised memorandum of understanding with Charterhouse was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
