Historical Society seeks $25,000 allocation, $100,000 matching campaign half funded

Representatives from the Wabaunsee County Historical Society & Museum told commissioners about expanding programming, genealogy archives containing more than 40,000 names, collaborations on mural projects and placement of a Paxico Rest Area historical marker.
Museum Director Marci Spaw said the museum was selected as one of five Kansas museums to receive the History Makers Award from the Kansas Humanities Council for a project themed on "Unity" that will support programming in each city. The Society requested a $25,000 allocation for 2027—$1,000 more than the prior year—and reported a match campaign for renovations of the Farmers Union Building with a $100,000 goal that has reached the halfway point.
