Council adopts series of ordinances including grocery tax, hotel/motel tax, parking fees and permit changes

The Council moved through a series of ordinance votes on Nov. 26, approving changes the city said will affect municipal revenue and permitting.
Notable actions included an amended loan agreement (Ordinance No. 2024-08-02) increasing the authorized amount from $60,000 to $70,424.62 to finance a police vehicle; an amendment to the preliminary levy ordinance (2024-11-06) increasing the levy by $17,100 after consultation with County Clerk Amy Buss; and adoption of Ordinance No. 2024-11-01 and Ordinance No. 2024-11-02 to implement a municipal grocery retailers/service occupation tax and a hotel/motel tax, respectively. The Council also approved Ordinance No. 2024-11-03 to implement new unlawful parking fees, Ordinance No. 2024-11-04 updating lot alteration and building permit fees, and Ordinance No. 2024-11-05 creating a new chapter to regulate mobile food vendors. Each ordinance was moved and approved on roll call with five yea votes and one absence (Alderman Kaczmarski absent).
