At the March 23 meeting Mayor Karen Lithgow proclaimed April 2026 as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and separately recognized National Library Week for the town of Lantana.
The town presented the telecommunicators proclamation to the Lantana Police Department communications supervisor, who thanked the council and said the center handled almost 20,000 phone calls last year, roughly 12,000 of which were 9-1-1 calls (noting multiple callers sometimes report the same incident). He described dispatch staff as the town’s “unsung heroes” for their role in answering emergency calls and coordinating responses.
The mayor also proclaimed National Library Week, praising libraries as inclusive community hubs that connect residents to technology and programs. A library staff member described increased adult-program attendance (crochet and floral-bar events), introduced two staff or program participants who were attending their first council meeting, and previewed a new Lantana-branded library card.
