Indian Hill High School principal Andy Gruber presented a proposed schedule redesign that would combine traditional seven-period days with block days while adding a central multipurpose period called "MP Time." Gruber said MP Time will give students choice-based access to supports — academic tutors, counselor meetings, clubs, wellness activities and supervised open-study spaces — with the goal of improving time management and students' sense of belonging. "We think we can open, some more freedom for our students, and we wanna do this with this change," Gruber said during his remarks.
Key elements include three days per five-day week with seven regular periods and two block days, a single MP Time where the whole building is open and students choose from multiple supervised locations, and an all-day cafe (07:30–14:30) to expand meal access. The plan also proposes additional grab-and-go food stations (in partnership with Aramark), expanded use of the gym balcony, media center and athletic foyer as landing spaces, and a digital ID check-in system to monitor attendance. Gruber said the district has seen a 92% retention rate for current eighth graders and emphasized the plan will start small with routines and supervision in place before full implementation.
