Suffield Youth Services expands summer programs and opioid‑prevention outreach

Joann Moriarty, Youth Services lead, reported that recruitment for the Sidekicks Teens Helping Seniors program was successful, with 33 teens now enrolled. She said a group of seven Sidekicks recently washed approximately 150 windows at the Suffield Housing Authority’s three residential units and that Youth Services will seek a grant from the Suffield Greater Together Foundation to sustain the program.
Moriarty also described summer programming (robot building and 3D printing facilitated by the ACES High Robotics team), the Youth Center’s open hours and a substance‑misuse prevention campaign. Every Suffield home received a Deterra drug‑disposal pouch and an informational sleeve — the sleeve includes a quote from First Selectman Colin Moll — a project Moriarty said was funded through Suffield’s Opioid Settlement Funds. The Suffield Youth Leadership Council hosted a May 20 “Stay Substance Free – Positive Mental Health” day at the high school.
