SFUSD outlines TK expansion plan; staff warn of staffing and facility limits

Facilities staff described bungalow replacements and site improvements to add approximately eight TK classrooms in the Sunset and other neighborhoods over the next few years.
Commissioners pressed the superintendent and HR on staffing: staff said early-hire postings were prioritized for TK and that offers have been extended for several new classrooms, but acknowledged pipeline shortfalls and that many potential TK seats require code‑compliant construction that takes two to three years and additional capital. Commissioners asked for more detailed, timely data and a clear mapping between site selection, construction timelines, and the proposed transition to geographic-based assignment zones.
