Sheriff seeks grant-funded license-plate reader and a permanent gun-range building

Sheriff Russ Thornton updated the commission on equipment and facility needs for the Sheriff's Office. Thornton said he has applied for a grant to buy a license-plate reader that would be installed in patrol vehicles.
He also proposed constructing a new gun-range building to replace two rented storage sheds, saying a permanent facility "would alleviate the need for the two storage sheds that are currently being paid for." The commission heard the request and no vote or funding commitment was made at the Nov. 24 meeting.
