Dr. Curtis Stevens, superintendent of USD 239, told the county commission during public forum that the district is considering closing Southern Cloud and that officials need timely notice to finish budgets. Stevens said "school scores are not a concern as much as ensuring they know before July 1st because that is when they start the budgeting process," stressing the district's need for advance certainty for staffing and budgeting.
Stevens also mentioned a write-in candidate for District 6 and said the school board would discuss the stadium system at its evening meeting. He encouraged partnering with other entities to pool resources for a long-term vision and raised concerns about the juvenile detention center in the context of community services and resource planning.
