Kane County canvassers certify June 23 Republican primary results

The Kane County Board of Canvassers met July 2, 2026, in the commission chambers in Kanab and unanimously certified the results of the June 23 Republican primary after an election-staff presentation of vote totals and ballot challenges.

Chameill Lamb, Kane County Clerk/Auditor, explained the purpose of the canvass, saying it is intended "to verify election data accuracy, ensure transparency, and instill public confidence in the final outcome" and that certification initiates the timeline for potential recounts and enables the Board to issue certificates of election or nomination. Heather Narramore, a staff member, then presented the detailed tabulation for the Republican primary: "there were 3,409 active voters for the Republican primary, with a total of 1,821 ballots counted. This total included 1,665 mail-in ballots, 32 early in-person votes, 124 election day in-person votes, and 5 provisional ballots," she said.

Narramore reported that 43 ballots were challenged, primarily for missing signatures or missing required identifying information; election staff cured 22 of those challenges, a 48% cure rate, and rejected 17 ballots that arrived after the 8:00 p.m. deadline. She noted the five provisional ballots required proof of Utah identification and 30-day residency. After the presentation, Assessor Ryan Maddux moved to accept the canvass "as presented," a motion that carried with all Board of Canvassers voting in favor (Commissioner Gwen Brown — aye; Assessor Ryan Maddux — aye; Treasurer Keiren Chatterley — aye).

With the certification complete, the county will proceed with the formal administrative steps that follow canvass certification, including the issuance of certificates of election and the start of any applicable recount timelines described during the session.
