Heather Robertson, a guest at the April 2 meeting of the Somerset Historical Commission, proposed using the Keep Massachusetts Beautiful program as a framework for a cemetery clean-up and mentioned an adopt-a-cemetery idea. The commission agreed the current target date of April 27, 2026 "would be too soon to mobilize an effort" and decided to plan for a future clean-up instead.
Commissioners discussed practical needs for such an effort, including the purchase of cleaning supplies (d/2) for headstones and coordinating with the Highway Department to procure materials and erect recently ordered cemetery signs. Chairperson Marybeth Rua-Larsen reported the signs "have been shipped" and said the commission will work with the Highway Department on installation. The commission did not set a new date at the meeting.
