At its July 20 meeting the Belvidere City Council approved a series of committee motions and grants. Planning & Zoning moved to allocate $27,278 for downtown façade improvements based on a Community Development memorandum; the motion passed unanimously. Public Works approved a $60,900 proposal from SignsNow for a monument sign for Municipal Parking Lot No. 7; council discussed concerns about potential spray-paint vandalism and Director Keck said the sign panels can be replaced in pieces if vandalized.
Finance & Personnel approved interior painting at city hall (Kleinfelder Bridal and Painting, $28,850) to be paid from impact fees. Public Safety moved to accept an Organized Retail Crime grant from the Illinois attorney general's office totaling $14,800 to help fund existing flat cameras; the council also approved a block party request from Saint James Catholic/Church. Finally, council voted to move briefly into executive session under Section 2(c)(2) of the Open Meetings Act to discuss collective bargaining matters.
