The Belvidere City Council approved the final clarifier gates replacement project for the wastewater treatment plant, awarding the construction contract to Leander Construction Inc. for $357,000. Council members said the work is long overdue; the item came out of public works committee with funding identified from grant sources and the sewer depreciation fund.
Council also approved a separate motion to contract Baxter & Woodman for construction engineering services for the clarifier project at an amount not to exceed $47,940, paid from the specified sewer appreciation/engineering line. Director Keck was present and available to answer technical questions; both motions passed on roll call with 10 in favor.
