District staff and trustees previewed a draft mission statement and described steps to increase parent engagement through reconstituted and new advisory committees.
The presentation described the draft mission statement in progress: "achieving excellence together, we will collaborate to empower the 1st school community that is student centered and academically focused." Staff outlined the English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC), the district‑level DLAC, a newly formed Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) to review the LCAP and site‑level parent teacher clubs (PTCs), and plans to publish a parent involvement tab on the district website and push outreach through ParentSquare. The board emphasized the need for more survey participation to make LCAP metrics meaningful.
Staff also proposed recruiting student representation for PAC and asked principals to help identify accessible meeting times. Trustees agreed to additional outreach and to return with more community feedback following spring break.
