Supervisors ask zoning commission to consider classifying public service garages as conditional use in agricultural preservation areas

The Woodbury County Board of Supervisors voted to initiate consideration of amendments to the county zoning ordinance that would revise the land‑use summary to classify “public service garage” as a conditional use in the Agricultural Preservation zoning district.

The proposal, introduced by the Chair and Supervisor Nelson, directs the zoning commission to hold a public hearing and provide recommendations on the change and any related matters. The Chair said the change is intended to ‘‘clear up the ordinance’’ and to give the county flexibility to relocate or rebuild county machine sheds and service buildings as secondary roads or operations are updated. Daniel Priestley told the board he would "take your direction to the zoning commission" and that the commission would hold a public hearing and deliver a recommendation.

Board members approved a motion to initiate the amendment process (motion by Bittinger, second by Dietrich). The board recorded the vote as passing unanimously in the meeting. The zoning commission will determine hearing dates and make a formal recommendation before any ordinance change is adopted.
