Camp Moxie Joe's updates council on costly sewer work, plans rezoning request once compliant

Joanna Hall, speaking on behalf of her company Camp Moxie Joe's, told the Land Use & Transportation Committee that the vintage campground and event space in Federal Way has been closed since last fall while the owners work to get the site up to code. "Camp Moxie Joe's is a unique vintage campground and event space in Federal Way that has been shut down since last fall as we are working on getting up to code," Hall said, adding the site's mission is to "create spaces for play and recreation" and to host events that connect neighbors.
Keelan, the camp's community engagement manager, said the project has run into major permitting and infrastructure hurdles related to wastewater. "Then we found out sewer is the only option," Keelan told the committee, estimating the full sewer connection could be "looking at the possibility of 6 figures," which has delayed the property's reopening. He said the camp is finalizing a contract with a sewer contractor and has an architect under contract; once in good standing with permitting staff they intend to seek rezoning to allow campground use at the site. Both Hall and Keelan thanked city staff for their assistance and said they will keep the permitting team updated.
