During a recess of the county board, the Board of Bids and Contracts for Sedgwick County Fire District No. 1 considered a sole fire-district item and approved a bid award to Ford Incorporated for a current-model 4x4 utility-bed fire response truck at $118,887.
Brian Ritchie of the fire district described the truck as used daily to respond to fire events, perform field mechanical repairs and provide on-scene support; he said the current vehicle is worn and that ordering early improves the chance of a 2025 delivery because manufacturer schedules fill up. The board moved to accept the Ford bid, seconded and approved the purchase.
