Riverview playground and splash pad plans go to council after 715-person survey

Richard, the department staff member leading the projects, told the advisory committee that Riverview Park's playground and splash pad design work is progressing and that public input has been strong online.
"We had 715 respondents to that," Richard said, describing the online poll that supplemented two sparsely attended public meetings. He said staff plans to take the top two concepts (and the public's top choice) to the city council on Aug. 19 to seek consensus and then begin pricing discussions with manufacturers.
Members discussed the survey results and emphasized shade as a recurring community preference. A member noted that respondents "put so much emphasis on shade," and staff said results from the poll were consistent with smaller meetings and that options could be blended to accommodate preferences.
Richard said the existing $3,000,000 in Riverview funding remains in the previous year's capital plan; portions were moved to the next fiscal year to allow encumbrance time, but staff expects that — if council supports moving forward — construction could begin in early 2027. The committee agreed to revisit specific budget and timing at the Aug. meeting.
The advisory committee did not take a formal vote on design tonight; Richard framed the presentation as informational and said formal decisions will be sought from council as the next steps.
