County staff asked the commission to approve additional assessor positions for the CDDO to handle annual assessments tied to a new state assessment tool.
Tim said approximately 500 people will come off the waitlist and that "over 200 of those individuals are here in Sedgwick County," which will increase assessor workload. He said the state is adopting a new assessment instrument that will increase assessment time and require the CDDO to evaluate eligibility annually, prompting a request for additional staffing capacity.
Commissioners sought clarification about a state cap of 6,500 and whether there are people beyond that cap; staff reported current local counts fall within the capped amount and that the assessor addition is to cover annual reassessments of newly served residents.
