County transportation staff described a potential application to the Kansas Department of Transportation for an innovation-technology grant that would fund intersection cameras and remote traffic monitoring.
Ellen Lin said the grant would carry no application cost and could yield about $150,000 to install cameras at four or five intersections to enable remote traffic control and automated counts. "We'd be able to do it remotely from the cloud," Lin said, describing reduced need for in-person traffic counts and an ability to test technology at scale.
The briefing was informational; staff said they would submit the application for consideration through the county's grant review process.
