Board considers cosmetology and new HVAC CTE pathway as part of facilities plans

During Measure M planning the Board discussed Career and Technical Education pathways that could be enabled by bond-funded facilities work. Associate Superintendent Leo Perez reviewed the history and costs of the ROP cosmetology program and noted its popularity with female students, saying many current CTE pathways "lean towards male dominated industries." The presentation included the recommendation that the EHS culinary project would be more cost-effective as a new building and that the current culinary classroom could be renovated for cosmetology.
Trustee Andrea Hoheisel and others asked about long-term CTE planning. Perez said the District is "also interested in implementing a HVAC CTE pathway." Board members asked staff to continue exploring options and to weigh costs and student demand before finalizing plans. The Board’s general consensus was to continue discussion of cosmetology as a pathway alongside facility upgrades rather than make an immediate decision.
Next steps: staff will incorporate CTE pathway planning into the FMP and return with refined options during later meetings.
