Belvedere council ratifies Tiburon fire district ordinance, holds first reading of 2025 California fire code

The Belvedere City Council voted to ratify a Tiburon Fire Protection District ordinance and conducted the first reading of an ordinance adopting the 2025 California Fire Code and the 2025 Wildland Urban Interface Code. Staff and a Tiburon Fire Protection representative described the ordinance as a code-based adoption tied to the state model fire code; the council voted to ratify and advance the ordinance to a second reading scheduled for Jan. 12.
Council and staff clarified that an earlier drafting error used the word "wildlife" instead of the correct term "wildland" in the ordinance text, and that Belvedere is not in a wildland urban-interface zone so the city would not be governed by that code for its areas. "It would change over, I believe, after the 2nd reading of the code on January 12," Brian, the staff/representative, said when asked about the effective date. Staff explained that, under state rules, projects are governed by the code in force when applicants applied, so projects applied for before the new code takes effect will remain under the existing code.
