Sally Wilkinson was elected mayor of Belvedere on Dec. 8 during the council’s annual reorganization. Mayor Jane Cooper nominated Wilkinson and, after a second and confirmation that no members of the public wished to comment, the council approved the nomination by voice vote. "But if you don't mind, I would like to nominate Sally Wilkinson for mayor," Mayor Jane Cooper said during the nominations.
The council also elected Kevin Burke as vice mayor after a nomination and second; that motion passed by voice vote. The meeting included a short ceremonial moment: outgoing Mayor Cooper sash-ed Wilkinson and council members offered congratulations. Council members emphasized continuity, thanked Cooper for her year of service, and noted Wilkinson will take on ceremonial and liaison duties as mayor. The council did not register a roll-call vote; the outcome was announced on the record as passed by voice vote.
