Belvedere Police Chief Wu presented the department's quarterly report to the council on Oct. 13, detailing 1,085 incidents in the reporting period, out of which staff classified 0 as part‑1 offenses and 5 as part‑2 offenses. The report listed 16 officer contacts (10 traffic violations, 6 suspicious‑activity stops), 12 perceived Caucasian and 4 perceived Hispanic contacts in the detention statistics, and one arrest.
Council members pressed for more context around the 1,080 'other incidents' figure and requested a breakdown between officer‑initiated contacts and calls for service. One councilor said the headline number is “misleading” without further classification; Chief Wu said the department can provide more detail and noted prior reporting had separated coyotes and other non‑criminal incidents but that doing an exhaustive breakdown requires additional staff effort. The chief also confirmed staffing shortages remain and the department relies on overtime and mutual‑aid from Tiburon and Mill Valley when coverage gaps appear. "We're depending on overtime, and we're continue to... having assistance from Tiburon PD," Chief Wu said, describing operational measures while recruiting.
