"All students were exited off the wait list," said a summer program presenter, explaining that some students got spots late but the district worked to remove wait lists for everyone who wanted to attend. Presenters said the district's summer offerings — summer explorations, extended school year, two‑week pilots (Jose Valdez Math Institute) and peer connections — together served about 668 students.
Staff praised the Stanford partnership for staffing and program design; one presenter said the field trip to Stanford had an emotional impact: students "looked delicious" at the dining hall — a quip the presenter used to note how enthusiastic students were about the experience. The district also said it created 11‑month behavior‑technician positions to sustain supports and that peer‑mentoring expanded, with rising 7th and 8th graders paired with younger students.
Trustees asked about measurement of academic gains from summer and staff said they are working on better quantitative tracking to compare attendees with a control group and to measure attendance and engagement effects across the school year.
