SGUSD reviews midyear LCAP and LCFF spending as absenteeism rises

Superintendent Shay Caletti presented the district’s midyear Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) review and an LCFF budget overview, saying the district’s LCFF account was "a little over $3,000,000" and that $83,000 of that is the concentration grant earmarked for unduplicated pupils.
Caletti outlined four LCAP goals and described allocations for tutoring, resource teachers, intervention aides and curriculum adoptions for elementary grades. She reported several performance indicators: CAST results showed math up by three points and reading down by roughly two percentage points; she said 100% of students with disabilities who need targeted programs were receiving them under IEPs.
Trustees pressed for clarity on attendance and outcomes. Caletti said the district changed the baseline metric for chronic absenteeism to provide a clearer picture: "Our baseline, I changed that, is was 9.2. It jumped up by 3% this year to 12.5," and acknowledged low survey response rates (21 parent respondents last year, 84% of whom answered a particular question) make interpretation difficult. Trustees asked for an improved parent and staff survey plan and a teacher-driven review of intervention efficacy ahead of the June LCAP adoption.
Board members noted the superintendent plans to refine goals next year to emphasize social-emotional learning and MTSS (multi-tiered systems of support) and said staff will bring further LCAP edits and a final draft for approval during the district’s June review cycle.
