Edisto Beach council approves ATAX funding for safety gear, tourism research and summer events

The Town Council on May 14 approved a package of Accommodations Tax (ATAX) funding recommendations spanning public safety equipment, tourism research, data tools and summer events.
The ATAX Advisory Board recommended $14,105.60 to purchase and install 20 life rings and cabinets at beach access points as a Phase 1 public-safety measure; council approved the amount unanimously. The council also approved a two-year tourism data and visitor-experience research initiative, with the Chamber of Commerce contributing 50% and ATAX funding of $25,450 to cover the Town's requested portion for Placer.ai mobility/economic-impact data and a Gray Research Solutions visitor survey.
Separately, council approved $9,000 for location intelligence and foot-traffic software to be shared with the Chamber for grant support and visitor insights; $5,000 to support Animal Lovers of Edisto's Paddle for Pups fundraiser; and $5,500 for the Edisto Art Guild's Arts in the Park four-concert summer series. All ATAX motions passed unanimously.
