FFA chapters and students recognized; district highlights extracurricular and attendance gains
Summary
Redding and Foothill FFA students updated the board on competitions and activities; principals reported attendance recovery, competition honors and interventions to reduce D/F rates. Several students and a teacher were also recognized by the board.
During the public comment and recognition portions of the Feb. 10 meeting, Redding FFA students Katherine L. and Kyleigh Bates and Foothill FFA students Dani Garcia and Josiah Dorroh briefed trustees on chapter activities, competitions and upcoming FFA Week events.
Principals reported instructional and extracurricular highlights: Tim Calkins said Pioneer Continuation High School had four graduates from its fourth session and noted student Grace Kirby’s recognition at the SCOE Every Student Succeeding Luncheon. Enterprise High School Principal Ryan Johnson highlighted improvements in deficiency notices, freshman credit efficiency and attendance and recognized students and the NorCal honor groups. Foothill High School Principal Kevin Greene said counselors used flex time to help students complete FAFSA and that staff recovered over 70 days of attendance through STIS and Home and Hospital.
The board also recognized two Shasta High seniors — McKenzie Hilburn and Olivia Ferguson — and teacher Amy Eiszele.
