The superintendent reported the district’s enrollment at roughly 242 students this year, a decline of about 9% from last year’s 271. "This year, our totals are about 9% lower than last year," the superintendent said, noting Alameda County generally shows a post-COVID enrollment decline and housing costs can depress school-age population.
She described a positive start to the year in classrooms, active middle-school electives, a smooth back-to-school night, and progress toward staffing the Eagle's Nest after earlier shortages. The superintendent said preschool licensing was expected around Sept. 30–Oct. 1 once portables, the ramp and final hiring issues are resolved; the board heard staff will continue hiring to open preschool and fill after-school program openings.
