Board approves school plans for student achievement amid discussion of subgroup disparities

Arthur Guffey, the district’s Chief Business Officer, summarized the approach and explained the plans are tailored to each school’s culture and data.
During discussion, board members and public commenters pressed staff on how the district will measure growth and address disparities, particularly for students with disabilities, English learners and Hispanic students. Staff said the district will use NWEA and other benchmark assessments for progress monitoring and emphasized coaching for instructional leaders to improve progress monitoring practices.
A board member moved to approve the school plans and the board voted unanimously to adopt them. Staff acknowledged the plans are long documents and said they will continue to look for ways to summarize cross‑site commonalities while preserving individualized school plans.
