Human-resources leaders presented the district’s annual staffing and hiring update, highlighting a concentrated hiring season and efforts to recruit locally.
Jeremy Shihara (speaker 11) said the district had hired 48 certificated staff and 71 classified staff since July, including internal promotions, and that the HR team has expanded targeted, local recruitment. “From July 1 to last week, we'd hired 48 certificated staff ... we hired 71 classified staff, and that included 15 internal promotions,” he reported.
Mary Beth Omid (speaker 17) reviewed recruitment tactics the district has used: a local classified hiring fair (65 attendees with roughly 50 hires from the event), on-site application support, partnership with universities for mock interviews, and outreach to community organizations. The HR team also presented a geographic distribution of staff, noting most employees live within 10 miles and that the district is engaged with regional housing partners and workforce pathways.
The board praised the outreach and asked HR to survey employees about interest in staff housing or affordable-rent options as part of Westside Education Alliance conversations and to continue reporting on workforce diversity and retention metrics.
