Solano County proclaims April as Children's Month; community groups outline April events

The Solano County Board of Supervisors adopted a proclamation declaring April 2025 as Children's Month and heard presentations from First 5 Solano and partner organizations about services and events.
Alicia Gutierrez, a health education specialist with First 5 Solano, said the group and partners host events throughout April to raise awareness about early childhood development. "Together, we can continue building a strong foundation for every child," Gutierrez said. Kathy Lago, executive director of Solano Family & Children's Services, described more than four decades of local child-care referrals, assistance and developmental screening work that help parents access child care and support employment.
Shirley Collins, chief of child and youth services at Travis Air Force Base, asked the board to recognize the special challenges facing military-connected children and thanked the county for including military child recognition in April events. The board moved and adopted the Children's Month proclamation; staff and partner organizations were invited for photos and outreach coordination.
