Solano County proclaims April 7—13 as Public Health Week, highlights vaccination and food-distribution work

The Solano County Board of Supervisors on April 1 adopted a resolution recognizing April 7—13, 2025 as National Public Health Week and heard local health officials summarize recent program activity.

Jalene Richards, public health administrator for Solano County Health and Social Services, thanked public-health staff and described public health as serving the entire community: "What public health does is our patient is the community," she said, urging continued support for prevention programs. The board read resolution excerpts noting the Family Health Services mobile food pharmacy has distributed more than 16,000 food boxes and roughly 1,650 tons of fresh produce since launching in November 2018. The county immunization program was credited with hosting 88 clinics that provided COVID-19, influenza, monkeypox and Tdap vaccinations, and the regional public-health laboratory tested about 11,000 specimens.

The resolution also recognized Robin Cox, described in the reading as the 2024 Edward G. Lopez award recipient; Cox, who retired in December 2024 after nearly 35 years in public health, thanked the board and partners for decades of support. "We could not do what we do without the support of great leadership, fantastic residents, and community-based organizations," Cox said.

The board moved and adopted the resolution during the presentations portion of the meeting. No separate implementation direction or budgetary appropriation was recorded; the action was a formal proclamation and staff presentation.
