Fairwood’s project-based model praised as a model of family engagement

Trustees during discussion asked staff to present enrollment and participation metrics at a later date so the board can quantify how many students choose Fairwood specifically for its program features. Board members and public speakers said Fairwood’s success highlights equity tensions: schools with strong PTA funding can offer more trips and programs, which can draw students from neighborhood schools. Staff said they will include enrollment draw and success indicators in future reports.
No formal action was taken; the board deferred further decisions until staff returns with metrics and implementation options.
