The Sunol Glen Unified Board moved to award the kitchen-improvements construction contract to the low responsive bidder, Cal State Construction, after staff presented the bid tabulation. Presenter Joe said the low bid was about $908,000 and explained that the contract includes an allowance for unforeseen conditions (roughly 5% of base bid) to address issues found when walls are opened.
Board members asked where the allowance and contingency appear in contract paperwork and whether the allowance percentage was calculated correctly; staff confirmed the allowance is in addition to the base bid and gave a working example of 5%. The board then voted to approve the contract award.
Separately, trustees reviewed Amendment No. 2 to an independent-contractor agreement for DSA inspection services for the kitchen project. Presenter Joe confirmed he had omitted attaching a one-page scope initially but provided required detail live: the DSA inspector will be paid $25,000 for approximately two months of inspection services. Trustees approved the amendment with a clerical correction to one contract date (changing March 10 to March 11).
Representative quote: "The low bid is 908,000," Presenter Joe said when announcing the recommended award. The board approved both actions by voice vote.
