Residents press board on who will pay to extend rural water lines for proposed subdivision

Residents at the hearing pressed both staff and the applicant about the routing and cost of rural water extensions needed for the proposed 8-lot subdivision at 6246 SW Diamond Road. Terry Reebel (speaker 9) said the current water line stops at 70th and asked whether that meant residents on Diamond would be forced to pay to have water run past their homes.
"They told me it would cost me $60,000 to get from 70th just to my house and then another 25,000 hook from in front of my house to my house," Reebel said. Applicant representative Sean Reed (speaker 8) said the owner has had discussions with Rural Water District No. 5 and that the applicant is willing to move the main and extend lines as necessary. Reed added that a meter at a driveway, if the line is already present, would typically cost about $4,000–$5,000.
Board members and staff urged residents to contact the water district to register interest in any extension and noted that many details — including easements, exact routing and final costs — would be resolved at the preliminary-plat and county-engineer review stages.
