Mayor Peter Schwartzman opened the meeting in the City Council Chambers by reading a proclamation honoring K9 Zeus on his retirement and presenting it to Officer Jake Taylor and Zeus.
The proclamation notes Zeus entered active duty in November 2019, served roughly six years, and worked with handler Jake Taylor on narcotics detection, evidence recovery and handler protection. It specifically cites Zeus’s role in a 2023 case that resulted in the seizure of “over a $170,000 in illicit currency.” Chief Leggate praised the bond between handler and canine and said the department plans another canine academy March 1–2. Council later acted formally to approve the retirement resolution (item 26‑4009) by roll call.
