Council adopts sewer rate changes; one dissent recorded

The Redfield City Council adopted Ordinance No. 05-2024 on Nov. 18, which amends the municipal sewer rate schedule effective Jan. 1, 2025.
The ordinance sets a flat rate of $10 per 1,000 gallons for users whose biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) is no greater than 200 ppm and total suspended solids (TSS) no greater than 250 ppm. Nonresident users exceeding those strength thresholds will face surcharges per the ordinance’s Appendix A. The measure also adds a $26.75 monthly fee to cover a USDA bond payment billed to each active service; a service location without an active meter will not be billed the USDA bond payment. Finance Officer Adam L. Hansen presented the ordinance language.
Mike Siebrecht moved adoption, Brent Derscheid seconded, and the motion carried; Councilor Amy Akin was recorded as dissenting. The ordinance was adopted Nov. 18 and scheduled for publication.
