Board approves agenda and consent items, including school roof refund; votes recorded

The Durham County Board of Commissioners approved the meeting agenda and passed the consent agenda at its July 28 session.

When asked whether there were agenda adjustments, the chair moved to approve; Vice Chair Michael Lee moved to adopt the agenda and it was seconded. The chair announced the agenda was adopted "5 to 0." Later, with no consent items pulled for further discussion, Commissioner Michelle Burton moved to approve the consent agenda with a second from Commissioner Stephen Valentine; the chair announced the consent package passed with a recorded board comment of "it passes 4 0 1."

A commissioner asked about item 25-0411 — a refund connected to Little River at Brooklyn schools' roof replacement — and where unused lottery funds go. County staff replied that refunded lottery funds are returned to the school system and must be used for capital projects; staff noted the district may realign dollars among capital projects during the year via budget amendments. Other consent-item questions addressed chiller replacement lead times and janitorial contract renewals; general services staff said chiller-part lead times are typically 20–32 weeks and that janitorial services will be monitored by building representatives with product procurement centralized under general services.
