Durham resident warns reassessments threaten seniors' homes

“ I, as a 75 year old senior, have grown up in the house I'm in... the tax has just gone out on it,” Coley said, describing failed attempts to get help from county staff. Chair Nada Alam acknowledged his remarks and indicated that the county’s tax administrator would speak with him after the meeting.
The exchange followed the board’s approval of the consent agenda and precedes a separate vote on the pulled consent item. No formal remedy or policy change was announced during the meeting; commissioners asked staff to follow up directly with Coley.
