City hears first reading on school-day parking ban on Willard Street

Council considered the first reading of an ordinance that would prohibit parking on the east side of Willard Street between Pfeiffer Street and Yates Street during school hours to reduce congestion and improve safety for students crossing the street. Staff said the street is 27 feet wide and parking on both sides can reduce traffic flow to a single lane during peak school times.
Staff said a resident parking survey showed majority support for restricting parking during school hours and that funds for signage are available in the city gas tax fund. The ordinance would prohibit parking from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on school days; the item will return for the first meeting in February for continued consideration and possible adoption.
