Council approves WIRC agreement to administer $986,200 storm-sewer rehab grant

City staff told the council the city was awarded a $986,200 Community Development Block Grant from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to rehabilitate about 700 feet of deteriorated brick storm sewer in the southwest section of the city. Staff recommended contracting with the Western Illinois Regional Council to provide grant-administration services; WIRC's costs will be paid from the grant funds.
"The city was awarded a $986,200 community development block grant public infrastructure fund grant ... to rehabilitate approximately 700 feet of deteriorated brick and storm sewer," Hansen said. Staff said WIRC has assisted with the application and will ensure compliance with grant requirements. Council approved the agreement 6-0.
Staff said the project will improve stormwater infrastructure and address failing sewer sections; WIRC's administrative work will be reimbursed through the grant once expenditures are incurred.
