City staff told the council that the Illinois Department of Transportation will provide $1,794,975 in ITEP funding for construction of phase 1 of the Lake Storey multiuse path and that the city's total share for phase 1 is estimated at $117,009.43 after a lower-than-expected bid. "The agreement provides $1,794,975 in Illinois transportation enhancement program funding for the construction phase with the city's estimated total share totaling a $117,009.43," Mr. Hansen said, noting bids have been opened and construction is scheduled to begin this spring.
Council members discussed specifics of the path alignment and bridge work during the second-phase engineering briefing; staff said phase 2 engineering will be reimbursable through the ITEP grant and that construction for the second phase is anticipated in 2027. The council voted to approve both funding agreements to allow the project to move forward.
