New nonprofit newsroom pitches community support at council meeting

"Since our launch in mid August, more than 71,000 people have engaged with our stories online through Facebook," Moreno said. She described the outlet as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit governed by a local board and participating in NewsMatch, a national donation-matching campaign that doubles donations through Dec. 31. Moreno thanked city staff — including the police department — for assistance with access to daily police reports and said the newsroom plans to add reporters and deepen coverage.
