Council renews downtown special service-area levy
Summary

The council voted to approve the 2025 special service area tax levy on Nov. 17, continuing an assessment used to fund downtown maintenance services. Staff reminded the council the levy was originally established by ordinance 75-4 in 1975 and that previous adjustments increased and extended the levy over time.
"Staff recommends approval of the special service area tax levy ordinance for 2025," city staff said during the presentation and noted the levy must be filed with the Knox County Clerk by the last Tuesday in December. The council approved the ordinance on a roll-call vote.
